Motion Changes Emotion

I have found movement to be truly profound in the healing process and increasing an overall sense of well-being. By moving vital energy through the body, both the energetic and physical bodies are impacted in a harmonious and positive way.
The human body holds both the physical and energetic tensions and blocks within it. When we begin to move in a conscious way, we can heal ourselves as a whole. Yoga is a perfect example of bringing the mind and body in union to heal our entire being. Bringing balance and peace to chaos and stress, both in our bodies and minds.
Yoga gets rid of tension by allowing you to stretch your entire body from top to toe, both inside and out. The deep breathing that accompanies yoga practice, increases the oxygen level in the bloodstream. Life-giving oxygen is needed by every cell and the brain has a tremendous need for oxygen.
By stretching out the tension in our body, and breathing deeply, as well as performing postures with our head below our heart, oxygen is distributed to all the body's parts, especially the brain. As a result, you will look and feel refreshed and rejuvenated and your mood elevated as your brain receives more oxygen and blood flow.
When I am feeling I need a mood boost, I do an inversion pose, usually a handstand. It is pretty much instantaneous how much better I feel. I feel turning myself upside down, has the same impact on my mood as my body. Turning myself upside down helps me see the situation from another perspective.
In yoga, there is a spiritual link to every physical posture. There is a deeper meaning behind what may look like a simple stretch. In yoga, when we stretch into the physical tensions in our body, we can unblock energetic and emotional stress. Sometimes we may find ourselves bursting into tears in a certain pose, because the physical body holds emotions we are harboring in our emotional, energetic body.
By releasing the physical tension, we can access and release the emotional traumas and blocks that are hindering us, and maybe in ways we don't even realize.
I remember once I was in a yoga class and we did a hand and finger opening pose and I started to cry. When I would feel hurt emotionally as a child and teenager, I would clinch my fists so tightly because I would feel painful emotions in my hands. It created an energy block and when I physically stretched this area, the emotions I had stored there for many years opened and released.
I learned in that moment that there is a link between our emotional state and our physical body. I love when life's experiences teach in ways we can truly learn from. To me, experiential learning is the wisest form of learning. If we tune in to our body and our emotions, we can learn a lot about ourselves.
I truly believe everything we eat, has a profound impact on our emotional state. If you fuel your body with foods that are empty nutritionally, like junk food, and foods that are processed, as well as drinking alcohol and sodas and drinks with added processed sugar, you will have more of a depressed, cloudy state of mind.
Our body and mind need what brings wellness. We are only as clear in our mind, as what we fuel our physical body with. Junk in= Junk Thoughts/ Junk Mood. Motion changes Emotion. Stagnation equals depression/low energy.
Our body is our vehicle, our temple, to anchor our spirit in this life. In order to have health, we must care for the physical body in a way that we realize it has a direct impact on our emotional and spiritual body. When we realize this, we can live in a more harmonious way, body, mind and spirit.
To bring awareness to your own body, ask yourself what kind of foods are you eating, daily and weekly? Ask yourself what kind of movement are you giving your body. Just so you are aware, not all movement is the same. Running may seem like a good idea for exercise, but overtime it can wreck havoc on the body and joints. Another reason I am a huge promoter of yoga and more conscious mind body movement.
Taking care of yourself starts by you asking yourself questions you need to answer honestly. What is holding you back and making your life less than exciting and full of wonder?
What can you do right now, in this very moment that the future you will appreciate?
Remember...Motion Changes Emotion...
